Telehealth Surges in Popularity as Medical Providers Seek Better Tech for Virtual Healthcare

(Waltham, MA) September 19, 2022—A new report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has found massive increases in the use of telehealth helped maintain some health care access during the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic.(1) The report analyzes Medicare fee-for-services data for 2019 and 2020 and found that the share of Medicare visits conducted through telehealth in 2020 increased 63-fold, from approximately 840,000 in 2019 to 52.7 million in 2020. Moreover, both providers and patients found that the convenience and effectiveness of telehealth made it a desirable option even as the pandemic stabilized.
